Press release

The exhibition “… LINE AS THOUGHT, LINES AS UNIVERSE…” examines contemporary drawing practices compared to some abstract drawing pioneers of recent decades. The concept of the exhibition was first inspired by the drawings of Romanian artist Alina Popa. During an illness and until her death in 2019, Alina Popa created an incredible set of drawings that deeply describe her experience.

The other drawings on display in the exhibition have turned to various expressive directions, exploring the potential that drawing as an art form presents to portray the inexpressible and the intangible, as well as bypassing ideas, space and the unknown in visual form, and ultimately testing the limits of language and thought.

The artists on display are: William Anastasi, Nina Canell, Carlfriedrich Claus, Attila Csorg, Christoph Fink, Habima Fuchs, Nikolaus Gansterer and Alex Arteaga, Monika Grzymala, Morgan O’Hara, Karel Malich, Isabel Nolan, Alina Popa, Stuart Sherman. Edited by Seamus Kealy and Nikolaus Gansterer.

The finalization and presentation of the catalogue with a roundtable featuring some of the artists as well as writers Ann Cotten and Klaus Speidel is scheduled for Friday, April 23, 2021.
