“Boryana Petkova has put drawing at the heart of her practice, but a drawing intimately linked to the body. It takes into account the possibility of accident, that of failure. But in these possible ruins, there is no melancholy, because the action is stronger than the risk it presents.”
Anael Pigeat art critic, journalist
Boryana Petkova has put the body at the centre of this research. She uses it both as a tool and a measure to create situations that destabilize, that provoke failure to question this moment when we lose control of our being. Through different media (drawing, sculpture, performance, video and sound installation), she explores constraint (which passes through the senses rather than physical shock), control, limits, prejudices, desire by questioning the poetics of endurance.
His work is guided by the desire to overcome the lethargy caused by self-imposed limitations.
Boryana tries to create a symbiosis, between the elements that reject each other. It puts them in struggle or synchrony to analyze the space of the limit – the line of contact that separates two different parts. She imagines and creates links, in asymmetry and dissimilarity.
