Press release

In response to the invitation of the BnF Museum as part of the 2024/2025 theme The World for the Horizon, Barthélémy Toguo offers a personal artistic journey, marked by works questioning memory, the gaze and exile. His creations, imbued with generosity, also collect anonymous voices and forgotten faces. A tireless traveller, Barthélémy Toguo envies visitors to discover his world through an exhibition designed specifically for the museum’s spaces. Her practice, which is resolutely multidisciplinary, addresses major topics such as globalization, migration and human rights. Dividing his time between Cameroon and France, and having exhibited around the world, Toguo draws his inspiration from various cultures to produce singular works. The public will be welcomed to the museum by a monumental installation, A Book is my Hope, exhibited for the first time in France, which will take over the staircase of the Richelieu site. The Great Bards, as well as the ceramics and medals of Toguo, will dialogue with the collections of the Department of Coins, Medals and Antiques in the first rooms of the museum/ The Mazarin Gallery will present graphic works, bas-reliefs and a second installation by the artist.
