Non-Effective Drawing

June 22 — August 24, 2024

Artists: Emmanuel Béranger x Boryana Petkova

Drawing is a movement of which the line is the trace. The line is the result of the action of the hand itself driven by the mind and imagination. Here, drawing is creating by investing one's whole body in the performance of the line, whatever the medium.

The work of Boryana Petkova and Emmanuel Béranger has drawing as its epicentre. Through the action of their bodies and according to pre-established protocols, the artists perform and show the result of their actions, which then becomes a work.

Non-Effective Drawing is an invitation to physical and mental performance in the realization of drawing. The act of drawing is an effort, a complete investment of the body for a given time, a feat.

Drawing and writing are effective acts. The drawing represents what is expected of it, a shape, a word. The works in this exhibition are dictated by the movement itself without aesthetic intention. The result is a universal body language: a drawing.

The exhibition will be activated on the occasion of 2 performances :

Emmanuel Béranger

Born in 1997 in Nantes, Emmanuel Béranger lives and works in Poitiers. As a contemporary artist, his plastic practice is built in relation to his sporting career. It is mainly through performances that he questions his relationship to the body and rhythm. Sculpture, drawing and video are equally important mediums in her work, allowing her to approach these issues related to the body in space in a different way.
